The Georgia Food Stamp Program
The SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistant Program) is available to those households that have given valid documentation that they are unable to afford food. Your SNAP benefits can be added to an EBT card each month automatically for quick and easy use. Your Georgia food stamps balance can be checked in 3 different ways: by phone, online, and in store. The balance on your EBT card is the amount of money you have available to you to purchase food at your local SNAP retailers.
Learn more about the SNAP program and other federal assistance programs online at the COMPASS website. Check your eligibility, apply for federal benefits, check on the status of your application, and make corrections/updates to your application, all from a personal or public computer using the COMPASS tool.
COMPASS
COMPASS is the online food stamp application and screening tool that has enabled potential SNAP users the ease of applying for food stamps online. The online application provides assistance for other areas of need other than the SNAP program. Medicaid, LIHEAP, Subsidized child card, Substance abuse services, TANF, and WIC, are some of the programs that can be applied to using the COMPASS tool.
To find out if you are eligible to receive benefits, click the ‘Am I Eligible?’ tab and provide some basic information to determine if you are able to receive federal benefits. You can find instructions about the application and information regarding the different benefit programs.
The ‘Apply for Benefits’ tab opens the application for food stamps. You will be able to read information regarding the food stamp program as well as eligibility requirements. The applications are easy and provide a step by step process of information to fill out. The application can be saved and reopened at a later time if needed. To begin filling out the food stamp application, you will have to create a user ID and password. This User ID and password will be used when you want to check on the status of your application or reopen a saved application in the future. After completing the application, you will request an interview time that can be done at your local DFCS office or over the phone.
The ‘Application Status Check’ tab allows you to check on the status of your application once you have submitted it.
To correct or change an application after you have submitted it, click the ‘Report my Changes’ tab. Any person receiving Georgia food stamps can change their application online. A change in income, number of people in your family, or new bills are all reasons that you might need to update your food stamp application.
If you are having trouble using the COMPASS website, or have any questions call 1-877-423-4746 or visit a local Community Partner, that will be able to further assist you.
