Georgia Department of Human Services Divisions

There are three divisions under the Georgia Department of Human Services. They are:

  1. Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS)
  2. The Division of Child Support Services (DCSS)
  3. Division of Aging Services (DAS)

Georgia Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS)

The DFCS investigates reports of child abuse; finds foster and adoptive homes for abused and neglected children and provides several support services to help families in need, including Food Stamps (SNAP), Medicaid and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF).

Child Welfare Services

The Child Welfare Services is part of the DFCS. Its main goal is to strengthen Georgia by protecting its children from abuse and neglect.

Report Child Abuse

If you have an immediate emergency, call 911 or your local police department.

Otherwise, call DFCS Child Protective Services at 1.855.GACHILD (422.4453) to report child abuse and/or neglect.

Child abuse and/or neglect reports are taken 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Division of Child Support Services (DCSS)

The Georgia Division of Child Support Services (DCSS) aims to strengthen Georgia by ensuring children receive support from both parents.

Georgia DCSS enhances child well-being through the administration of financial and medical child support and the provision of the following services: location of parents; establishment of paternity; establishing, monitoring, enforcing and reviewing support obligations.

Division of Aging Services (DAS)

The Division of Aging Services (DAS) is aimed at strengthening Georgia through services that give older Georgians and adults with disabilities independence and dignity.

It’s the responsibility of the DAS to assist older individuals, at-risk adults, persons with disabilities, their families and caregivers to achieve safe, healthy, independent and self-reliant lives.

The Division also investigates cases of abuse, neglect, and exploitation of elder persons and adults with disabilities.

How to Report Elder Abuse

To report elder abuse, you can call DAS toll-free: 1-866-55AGING (1-866-552-4464) – Press “3”.

Reports are accepted by phone Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
