Georgia PeachCare for Kids Eligibility

PeachCare for Kids is the state of Georgia’s Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) for kids who do not qualify for Medicaid. The state of Georgia has two main programs to cover kids ages 0-19 years – The Right from the Start Medicaid (RSM) and PeachCare for Kids.

How Is PeachCare For Kids Different From Medicaid (RSM)?

PeachCare for Kids is Georgia’s State Children’s Health Insurance Program or S-CHIP program.

It provides health coverage for uninsured children living in Georgia. The program serves working families whose income is more than that set by the Medicaid program but does not exceed the income limit based on the federal poverty level.

Georgia PeachCare for Kids Eligibility

Children may be eligible for PeachCare for Kids if they:

  • Are less than nineteen (19) years of age
  • Have a family income that is less than two hundred forty-seven percent (247%) of the federal poverty level, who are not eligible for Medicaid, or
  • Have services through another health insurance program

What is Covered under PeachCare for Kids?

PeachCare for Kids is a comprehensive health care program. The plan pays for preventive services and acute medical care, vision and dental care.

The health benefits covered include:

  • Primary services
  • Preventive services
  • Specialists
  • Dental care
  • Vision care
  • Hospitalization
  • Emergency room services
  • Prescription medications
  • Mental health care

How much does it cost?

Premiums are required for children ages 6 and older. The cost per month for PeachCare for Kids coverage is $11 to $36 for one child and a maximum of $72 for two or more children living in the same household.

Premiums are due the first day of the month prior to the month of coverage. For example, premiums for coverage in February are due on January 1.

In addition, many PeachCare for Kids customers are required to pay co-payments for their children.

These co-payments are paid to medical care providers on the date medical services are received. 

However, co-pays are not required for children under the age of 6, Foster children, Alaskan Natives, or American Indians.

How do I apply for PeachCare for Kids?

There are four ways to apply for PeachCare for Kids. You can apply online, via phone, in person or via mail.

Apply by Mail: You can download, complete and mail in a paper application
