In order to be accepted to receive assistance from the Federal Government in the form of Food Stamps you must meet the requirements of eligibility.
The requirements that must be made to be eligible for food stamps include:
- You are a citizen of the United States or have legal alien status
- You can provide all the necessary documents to prove household income
- You and household are following the laid out work requirements
- The combined household income does not exceed income limits
- The rent, utility, and in certain circumstances, child care, and child support expenses that are considered need proper documentation.
To be eligible for food stamps you must meet all the requirements listed above. If you are eligible you must fill out a Georgia food stamps application.

There are 3 ways you can apply for Georgia food stamps. Once you have determined that you meet the eligibility requirements, visit the Compass website, print out the application and mail it in, or visit an food stamp distributor near you.
Georgia Food Stamps Online Application
To apply for Georgia food stamps online, visit the Compass website and Click the ‘Apply for Benefits’ picture.
You will be directed to an informational page that determines eligibility for medical coverage. Click the ‘Next’ button located on the bottom right.
You will then select the appropriate bubble stating if you are a new applicant or returning to a saved application and click the ‘Next’ button on the bottom right of the screen. 
You can then begin the application process. You must be able to provide documentation of the income limits and follow the instructions to complete the online application. 
Once you have finished your application you are able to return to the Compass website to check the status of your application and benefits. You will be contacted by the DTA to set up an interview.
Georgia Food Stamps Mail In Application
You can find the application to print and mail in online. The application will outline the benefits, how the food stamp program works, and what you can expect. It takes around 30 days to start receiving benefits and once you have been accepted, you will find out what the amount of benefits you will receive is.
Step 1: Fill out application in its entirety and truthfully. Sign the application at the bottom.
Step 2: Keep the first 3 pages for your personal records and mail in the rest of the application to your local DFCS office.
Step 3: Someone will contact you regarding setting up an interview. This interview may be conducted over the phone.
