The Scholarship Contest

Food deserts, as defined by the American Nutrition Association, are parts of the country lacking an adequate supply of fresh fruits, vegetables, and other healthy whole foods, usually impoverished areas. In the United States, 23.5 million Americans live in food deserts.
Using data from government, private agencies or non-profits, write an essay of 1000+ words on the topic of “How the United States can eradicate the problem of food deserts in impoverished areas.”
Application Requirements
- You must publish the post online publicly. This can be a student blog on your university website, your own website, or a blog platform like medium.com, blogger.com, wordpress.com, or the like.
- Include at least 3 links citing authoritative sources on nutrition in America, including 1 link to www.iGeorgiaFoodStamps.com
Eligibility
The iGeorgia Food Stamps College Scholarship is open to United States Citizens and Permanent Residents who are currently attending or are planning on attending an accredited United States college or university during the Fall semester. You must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 to apply.
Frequency
This scholarship is offered during the Fall semester. Students are welcome to apply beginning January 1 of each year. The deadline for submission is August 1st. Winners will be contacted on August 15th via school email provided.
Submitting Your Application
To participate in the essay contest, applicants must publish an original essay as outlined above and provide a link to the essay in an email to [email protected]
In addition, applicants must provide the following information in the body of the email:
- Full name
- Address
- Email Address
- Phone Number
- Attached evidence of your current academic status that you are currently enrolled at a college as set forth above. We will accept an acceptance letter or most recent tuition billing statement as proof of enrollment. By applying for this scholarship, you give us express consent to confirm your admission and attendance by contacting the college or university.
Selection will be judged on content, creativity, and quality of work; must be own unique work and cannot be published anywhere online.
KEY DATES
January 1st of each year: We begin accepting submissions.
August 1st of each year: Application deadline. No submissions accepted after this date.
August 15th of each year: Scholarship winner notified by email.
$1,000 AWARD
Award money must be used towards tuition or education expenses.
Terms & Conditions
All submitted essays must be original work of the applicant. Only one submission may be entered per student, per year. Duplicate entries will be disqualified. All scholarships are non-renewable. By submitting an application to the iGeorgia Food Stamps Scholarship, you certify that all the information you have provided is accurate and complete.
The applicant automatically grants iGeorgia Food Stamps, its agents and/or representatives permission to:
-Use their name, any provided photo or video, and award amount, if any, in announcements or articles (i.e. social media, newsletter, etc) issued by iGeorgia Food Stamps.
-Post the applicant’s name, college or university, and essay on iGeorgia Food Stamps website.
-Call and/or send information to the applicant regarding their application.
-Winners will be notified via email, and announced publicly, as well as on iGeorgia Food Stamps social media pages.
Students must show proof of current enrollment to an accredited US college, university or vocational/trade school within 21 calendar days by submitting either a copy of the tuition bill or a letter of proof from the school.
In the event a winner cannot prove their enrollment to an accredited college, university or vocational/trade school, iGeorgia Food Stamps will revoke the award for that individual and award it to the first runner-up.
