What is P-EBT?

The Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) includes a benefit called Pandemic-EBT (P-EBT).

The bill was signed into law on March 18, 2020, by President Donald Trump in response to the spread of the novel coronavirus and the illness it causes, COVID-19.

One of the biggest disruptions caused by COVID-19 is the inability of children who receive free or reduced school meals at school to get their meals.

In response to this challenge, Congress created the P-EBT program.

P-EBT is a benefit for children who received free or reduced-price school meals in the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 school year, but their school was closed.

It provides benefits on a P-EBT card, which works like a debit card and can be used to purchase eligible food.

The Georgia Department of Family & Children Services runs the program, together with the Georgia Department of Education (DOE).

The P-EBT program has been approved to extend into the 2020-2021 school year with the stimulus bill passed in December.

In addition, the United States Department of Education has approved states to begin offering P-EBT for the new school year starting in October 2020.

However, the Georgia DFCS and DOE have not released dates for when benefits will be released for the new School year.

If your child is eligible, contact your school for more information or call your local DFCS office.

We will provide an update to this article as soon as the payment schedule is announced.
